24 - 02: The War Against Ukraine

On February 24, 2023, exactly one year after Russia's complete invasion of Ukraine, DAIS hosted a panel discussion on the social and cultural upheavals caused by the war. A key focus of the discussion was the role of women in war, as their perspectives are often overlooked. Additionally, panelists shared experiences of displacement, changing notions of security, and perceptions of the war and its effects in regions like Eastern Germany.

You can now watch the entire discussion in the YouTube video below.

Panelists: Lisa Füchte (Moderatorin, GWZO Leipzig)+++Prof. Dr. habil. Anna Gaidash (Visiting Professor from Borys-Hrintschenko-University/ Leipzig University)+++Alona Biriuk (American Studies Student from Ukraine, DAIS Alumna)+++Julia Hozakowska (Consul, US Consulate General Leipzig)

UKRAINIAN VOICES

In this special episode of »The Atlantic Hour« we commemorate one year of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. We met with a group of young Ukrainians from Odesa, who told us about their experiences of having to flee their homes and navigating their new lives in Germany.

Before the event, we interviewed Lucy Zoria, the program manager at America House Kyiv to hear her experiences from the start of the war last February.
