»Ukraine on our Minds« · Transatlantic Conversation Series at DAIS

»Ukraine on our Minds« - the title says it all. This Friday, 25 March 2022, more than 30 transatlantic teachers, journalists, students and experts convened to talk and exchange at DAIS—both virtually and in person.

Together with Professor Chris Ankersen, expert on global security studies at New York University, Professor Matthew LeRiche and students from Ohio University we reflected on how the war is affecting the transatlantic relationship, Europe, and most prominently--our Ukrainian friends. Their eye witness reports certainly were grounding the conversation in a deeply moving way.

DAIS stands with Ukraine

For me, the most moving thing was Alona sharing the recording of an air raid siren that her grandmother had sent her. Hearing that her family experiences this sound eighteen times a day and how they then need to seek shelter really got to me and put things into perspective
— Christoph N., one of the participants

The event was part of the Transatlantic Conversation Series. The Transatlantic Conversation Series at DAIS regularly provides a space for exchange, debate, and discussion among members of civil society on both sides of the Atlantic. We bring together young audiences that include students, activists, teachers, young professionals, journalists, and more to reflect and share observations on global issues from regional perspectives. That way, our transatlantic conversations strive to promote mutual understanding and to benefit the exploration of best practices to address common challenges both in the US as well as in Europe.
